Sunday Night Summary - Last Day of May?!

I can't believe it. May's come and gone. Didn't I say that about a previous month? But it's TRUE. I just don't get it. Really. I'm conceptoftime challenged. Help.
Let's see... Here's a list of what we've been up to.
  • Christopher babbles. His babble of choice is Dadadadadada... I wonder if this will be his first word. Dang. He also got his two front bottom teeth in the last couple of weeks!

  • Kate had her very last softball game of the season. They did great and really learned a lot. She had a great coach of course.

  • I think Erin has grown 3 inches. I bought her 4T summer clothes this month and they fit perfectly. She just turned 3! For a kid that won't eat... it's amazing.

  • I'm out of school in 2 weeks. Still counting down. I'm actually pretty sad about it. I'm doomed to have a crazy class next year since this year has been so great.

Beach Day Party

Today I told my students that I was thinking we should have a Beach Day at school before the last day. Of course they were so excited about this that they lost their minds and I could barely get them to listen to the task at hand. I wanted them to make a list of things we need for the party. I called on them as they raised their hand to give me suggestions, then wrote their responses up on a piece of chart paper. The list went like this:

Water
Coconuts
Coconut Smoothies
Pools
Swimsuits
Sand
Sunscreen
Hose

Then I asked them what kind of food they would like to have at the party. The list went like this:

Bananas
Cookies
Barbecue (one little girl offered up her grandfather's BBQ services)
Hot dogs with ketchup and mustard
Oranges
Cherries
Watermelon
Tequila for our parents

I'm not kidding.

Toys...

Apparently Barbie has somewhere to be today. She's been sitting in traffic for about an hour now.

Sunday Night Summary

This little boy turned 6 months old on Friday!

The Day the Ladybugs Came...
This week at school there were swarms of ladybugs! So much that I took my class out to see them and they couldn't even walk without squishing ladybugs. It was awesome, but we got a little bit of heebie-jeebies after they started landing in our hair and on our faces. The kids were sooo cute though, they loved it and caught as many bugs as they could carry. We had to do a ladybug check at the door when we came back in. Then I gave them paper to write about the experience. It's AMAZING how well they write when there is something to talk about! This little lady found her way inside the classroom.

These cutie pies spent the evening on Saturday night playing in the backyard.

For Mother's Day my beautiful family took me on a picnic to the Yolo Bypass Wildlife Refuge. We drove through the auto tour and saw lots of ducks, egrets, red-winged black birds and heard lots of bird songs. I remembered to take the binoculars, but did not remember the bird book. Erin had a turn with the binoculars, but would only look out of them backwards and was thrilled that she could see a chair (the back of the seat in front of her). When Kate and Erin started arguing over the binoculars, we made them get out and run behind the car. It was a great day!

This is a cinnamon teal duck. I think.

Only 5 weeks of school left! 25 days. Not that I'm counting...
And I was totally kidding about making the girls run behind the car.

It's Night Before It's Afternoon

Lately this Dr. Seuss quote has been running through my head:

How did it get so late so soon?

It's night before it's afternoon.

December is here before it's June.

My goodness how the time has flewn.

How did it get so late so soon?

I think this is the theme of our life right now. Every week is zipping by. I haven't blogged in forever. Christopher is 6 months old tomorrow. Kate is 5 weeks away from the end of kindergarten (already?!). Erin is, well, still a clown. I can see summer vacation on the horizon. I need to clean the clutter, the house, my car, my classroom... I need to make a list of my lists so I can find all the lists I need to make one big list. But I can't find my lists. So I'll start a new one. Or two. Am I making a list now?

Here's a picture that represents our daily crazy:

This is the doorway between the kitchen and livingroom. It's about 4 feet wide. We all stepped over these ponies probably 800 times tonight, going back and forth to and from the bathroom, up and down the stairs from the bedrooms to the kitchen. NO ONE STOPPED TO PICK UP THE PONIES. No one kicked them out of the way. No one was made to clean up their mess. The ponies still stand there at attention, wishing someone would feed them or brush their pretty pony hair.
Goodnight, ponies. Sweet dreams. We'll step over you a hundred more times in the morning, and maybe someone will stop to play with you again when time slows down.
